GEO-SPECIFIC VBS TRAINING TERRAIN
VBS UK Training Areas
Bring the UK’s principal training areas into VBS at exceptional terrain fidelity.
AIC UK Training Areas are geo-specific, high-detail VBS terrain inserts engineered for organisations that need the synthetic environment to reproduce the real training ground closely enough for rehearsal, familiarisation and exercise design.

Product Type
High-Fidelity Simulation Terrain
Product Code
AIC-VBS-UKTA
Deployment
Local VBS installation / classroom or collective training LAN / managed training estate / terrain inset within a wider VBS world
Key Differentiator
Geo-specific UK training terrain combining 2 m DTM, 0.5 m/pixel imagery, updated vectors, topographic mapping and handcrafted refinement for VBS.
High-Fidelity Terrain Where It Matters Most
AIC's VBS UK Training Areas provide super high-resolution terrain inserts for the principal UK military training areas.
Each terrain package combines topographic mapping, a 2 metre digital terrain model, 0.5 metre per pixel imagery and updated vector data, with additional handcrafted refinement used to improve the features that matter to training users.
The result is a geo-specific synthetic environment designed to complement the wider UK Dataset: national terrain provides context and scale, while the training-area insert supplies the detail required when an exercise moves into a specific real-world location.
The Challenge
Generic terrain is often sufficient for broad tactical scenarios, but it cannot reproduce the geometry, routes, relief, land use and recognisable features of a real training area closely enough for location-specific rehearsal.
When synthetic training is intended to prepare users for activity on a known UK range or training estate, terrain fidelity becomes part of the training value rather than a purely visual enhancement.
The Capability
AIC builds geo-specific VBS terrain inserts from high-resolution terrain and imagery sources, updated vector information and topographic reference data.
A 2 metre DTM provides detailed ground form, 0.5 metre imagery gives strong visual correspondence with the real location, and updated vector uplift reconstructs relevant roads, tracks, structures, boundaries and other training features. Handcrafted refinement is then applied where automated generation alone is not sufficient.
Operational Outcomes
Rehearse activity in a synthetic representation of the real UK training location.
Improve terrain familiarisation before live training.
Support instructors with geographically recognisable exercise design.
Represent terrain form using 2 metre digital terrain model data.
Provide detailed visual reference using 0.5 metre per pixel imagery.
Improve roads, tracks, features and training context through updated vector uplift.
Use handcrafted refinement where automated source conversion cannot deliver the required training value.
Combine seamlessly with broader UK terrain products for national-to-local scenario continuity.
Controlled Terrain Delivery
Training-area packages are delivered as licensed VBS content into the customer's approved simulation environment and do not require an AIC-hosted runtime service.
Any customer-specific handling, distribution or environment controls can therefore remain aligned to the organisation's existing training-system security model.
Capabilities
Main UK training-area terrain inserts; topographic mapping; 2 m digital terrain model; 0.5 m/pixel imagery; updated vector uplift; geo-specific terrain generation; handcrafted refinement; VBS-ready terrain content
Integrations
Virtual Battlespace (VBS) terrain/content pipeline; compatible with wider AIC VBS UK Dataset deployments
Identity Support
Not applicable to terrain content; access is governed by the customer VBS environment and licence model.
Data Residency
Customer environment. No mandatory cloud service or external runtime dependency.
Encryption
Inherited from customer storage, distribution and endpoint security controls.
