AIC was engaged by a rapidly growing UK-based defence SME facing increasing demand across multiple government and MOD-aligned programmes. While technically strong, the organisation lacked a structured commercial and delivery framework to scale safely.

The challenge was clear: projects were being delivered in isolation, contractual risk was inconsistent, and there was no repeatable model for managing subcontractors, Statements of Work (SoWs), or governance.

AIC implemented a full contractual and operational restructure, introducing a layered delivery model built around Framework Agreements, subcontractor flow-down structures, and tightly controlled SoW execution. This ensured all work was governed, scoped, and commercially protected before delivery began.

Alongside this, AIC introduced standardised operational artefacts, including onboarding processes, milestone-based reporting, acceptance criteria, and change control mechanisms. These were designed to remove ambiguity and enforce consistency across all programmes.

The result was a fully scalable delivery system. The client was able to confidently expand into new contracts, onboard suppliers without increasing risk exposure, and improve cash flow through structured milestone billing.

This transformation positioned the organisation to operate at a level expected of prime contractors, while retaining the agility of an SME.
